Supplements for Lean Muscle Tissue
Glutamine
Helps produce growth hormone. Nitrogen which is essential for muscle growth and repair, is transported by glutamine around the body. Glutamine also removes ammonia and deposits it in the kidneys or intestines where it can be dispersed. When glutamine requirements are not met by diet the gut and immune system will draw on it from the muscle cells, which is very catabolic. Best taken pre and post workout and before bed. Ideal to be taken with protein shake.
Protein
Whey protein combined with carbohydrates are important for protein synthesis. 1.2-1.4 grams of protein per Kg of bodyweight maybe required for anabolic gains.
HMB Stack (Contains Glutamine)
Up-regulates the bodies ability to build muscle and burn fat in response to intense exercise. Shifts the balance of protein metabolism in favour of new muscle. Increases strength. Best taken in the morning and evening with meals.
Creatine
Helps build lean muscle mass, allowing a greater force to be used, provides energy so the duration of exercise can be lengthened, and speeds up recovery so exercise frequency can be increased. Increases muscle cell volume allowing increased glucose uptake and protein synthesis. Best taken with a loading phase and maintenance dosage in a 4-8 week cycle.
Vanadyl
Increases glycogen storage in the muscle by increasing insulin effect. Increases amino acid transport into the muscle. Increases cell volume which improves protein synthesis and helps the muscle into a pumped state. Divide vanadyl dosage evenly throughout the day. Best taken 30 minutes before meals.
BCAA
Branch chain amino acids are essential. These are not produced by the body and must be obtained from the diet. BCAAs help stop muscle breakdown and assist with protein synthesis. High levels of BCAAs are found in whey protein. Can be supplemented throughout the day. Essential to get some form of BCAAs post exercise. (Whey protein option)
